A busy couple of days awaits us here at DINA with music and comedy being served up.
On to Friday night and alternative hip-hop band Ceiling Demons head up a night of four bands, alongside homemade indie-rockers Oya Paya, psychedelic Velvet Underground-esque Sundaze and punk band A Standard Model bringing together an eclectic cross-genre night. For more information and tickets (£3 adv £4 OTD) check out the Facebook event page.
On Saturday we’re delighted to host the first of four Edinburgh preview shows over the next month. First up is Dave Alnwick with his show “Dave: Literally The Best Magician.” Dave has had twelve sell-out Fringe runs and a national tour, as well as treading the DINA stage at Club Wow Wow a couple of months back, with his bloody good combination of cunning conjuring and comedy. Also appearing as support is Joe Thompson, who has performed with DINA favourites Stürike Comedy. £4 on the door £3 concessions.
Also on Saturday, Mads n da Bads DJs are back to present another Gumbo Fundraiser, this time for those affected in the Grenfell Tower disaster. For just £8, five Sheffield bands will be performing. Club Shefficana, who play an eclectic mix of acoustic blues, reggae, rock’n’roll and whatever else takes their fancy line up alongside the sun-drenched afrobeat of Captain Avery & the Cosmic Triceratops of Intergalactic Peace. They are joined by Smiling Ivy, hailed by Now Then as “a faultless marriage of 2 Tone and third wave ska punk,” Sushi who fuse together world music, drum and bass and speedy breakbeats and Speed For Lovers who describe themselves as “live electronic music from three middle-aged ravers.” Tickets available from here in advance or £10 on the door.
So a packed weekend awaits us yet again, bring it!
