DINA launch The Potential Prize

Uncategorised
The team at DINA are delighted to launch a national competition for emerging contemporary artists. The Potential Prize has been created to follow the success of the Connect The Dots Festival last year which saw over 2000 visitors to DINA and O2 Academy. The competition offers a £250 bursary and the opportunity to exhibit alongside international artists at DINA this September. Our director Deborah Egan said: “We will be inviting applications from artists who explore the environment that lies between analogue and digital, using sound, visual arts or interdisciplinary practice. “The purpose of DINA is to offer a platform for new and emerging work, so we are welcoming submissions from artists with range of practices and artistic approaches that can bring together a showcase of new talent.” The closing date…

DINA Digest: A look ahead to events this week (04/04)

Uncategorised
Once again it's time to showcase what we have here for this week, but first a thanks to all who came down for a great weekend. We debuted our Social Club night on Friday, an after-work relaxed get-together for creative types with beer, cheese toasties and pork pie. We'll be doing this again this week but with a slight twist on the proceedings, which I'll mention later. On Saturday we had Sheffield techno royalty in B12 in our place on what was a cracking night from start to finish. Moving on to this week and seeing as it is Tuesday then that means... yes, it's Creative Tuesdays night, with an evening of film from Arkade. Tonight's showing is on the theme of 'Cognition & Consciousness', with work from regional and…

DINA Digest: What’s happening this week (20/03)

Uncategorised
Well, what a weekend that was! We had an absolutely jam-packed schedule with so much going on, thanks to everyone involved for making it such a great one. The GYPSYmaneuvers Launch Party kicked us off on Friday bringing a new and exciting music night to the city, whilst on Saturday we had beer and bass brought down to the venue. The Cavendish Beer Festival wet whistles throughout the day, whilst BARANG! and their global sounds touched down again at night with the beats, completely selling out for another belting evening. Sunday saw the Storyteller's studio make its bow in the afternoon, whilst another event made its debut in the shape of Creative Lounge. This brought together a really wide range of performance, and was that much of a success it…

This Weekend at DINA (Fri 17 to Sun 19 March)

Uncategorised
To say there's a fair bit cracking off down our place this weekend would be somewhat of an understatement, so here's a digest on what's happening from Friday through to Sunday evening at DINA. First up on Friday is the GYPSYmaneuvers Launch Party, a brand new night featuring an eclectic industrial experimental live music programme, featuring UKAEA, Dogfeet, Negative Midas Touch & Charly B from Chop Shop DJs. This is a pretty bold concept for an evening as not all the acts performing follow a specific genre, but all complement each other in some way. Have a look at their Facebook event page for a full description of the line-up. Set in our intimate Georgian Room, and just £7.20 to get in (the National Minimum Wage, so effectively one hour's…

Review: Scriptless In Seattle

Uncategorised
The Impolytes - Scriptless in Seattle DINA Cambridge Street - Sheffield - February 10th 2017 Improvising Comedy is a tough gig – as a performer being quick witted is the half of it – its dangerous territory with no map or fixed destination. As Impolytes member Bobby Anderson says, it is about the relationship with the audience, and “throwing the ball and knowing that someone else is going to catch it." Performing to a full house at DINA, The Impolytes tackle that most difficult of forms of Improv Comedy, the sustained long form, a scriptless 45-50 minute rom-com. During the journey the audience experience the serve balls, the dropped balls, and the pure balls of a young company in the driving seat. This audience sets the frame by naming characters…

A Little Bit Racey – Improv Comedy Panel Show’s First Live Audience Showing

Uncategorised
Dare we say it, but we are kind of becoming at least a burgeoning deal on the improv scene in Sheffield, and on Wednesday February 8, we heartily welcome esteemed and bloody funny comedy panel show podcast "A Little Bit Racey" for their first ever show in front of a live audience. A Little Bit Racey has grown from an idea from a bunch of friends at uni to wing its way to fruition in Sheffield, and co-producer Sam Hutchinson had a word with us about how it has become a continuingly fledgling fixture in the world of improv. Sam said: "The show started life at Bournemouth University, where a small group of us in a performance society wanted to test-drive something ambitious and comedic on our student radio station…
