The Cellar at DINA gets ready for launch

The Cellar at DINA gets ready for launch

Uncategorised
Nine months ago, a group of our hearty band of volunteers at DINA, came up with an idea to turn the wrecked beer cellar here into a working theatre space. It was met with many obstacles along the way, but nous and sheer graft have made that a reality as The Cellar at DINA tantalisingly awaits its launch night on Wednesday July 18. Joey Winson spoke to Miriam Schechter, one of the new venue’s founders, about the journey of The Cellar, what’s in store for the launch night and its future. We last chatted with Miriam in February as our venue’s old beer cellar, once a disorderly, unloved and forgotten relic in the grand scheme of DINA, was slowly but surely starting to see a dream being realised as a…

This is running for two nights from 1930-2100, with tickets at £10 and £7 concessions. For more information visit their Facebook event page. And seeing as it's Tuesday, that means…

UnShut Festival: Interview With The Curator, Charlotte Blackburn

Uncategorised
The first UnShut Festival begins this month at DINA bringing a wide variety of performance art to our venue over three days. This brand new and bold platform for artists sets out to make its mark on Sheffield’s creative calendar by showcasing work in a professional environment outside of mainstream theatres. One of UnShut’s curators, Charlotte Blackburn, decided to create an annual festival after producing a successful run of one-night events, Northern Art, at Theatre Delicatessen in Sheffield City Centre. Charlotte said: “At the time there was nothing like it taking place in the city, and after doing ten of these shows in two years I decided a three day annual festival was the next step, something which would bring people together through a range of performances. “It is about…

DINA Digest 01/05 – 07/05

Uncategorised
It's been slightly quieter at DINA this week, it could well be said we're having a bit of a breather for what lies ahead for the rest of the month, which is packed. We've updated our listings up until June (June's shaping up to be even busier and those listings will be up very soon, just as we've confirmed a few bits and bobs.), so you can have a look at the delights in store, everything from Sheffield Gin Festival, to Daft Chuffs Comedy Night, and UnShut Festival of performing arts. Speaking of performance, we've had an immersive one in our building this week as Sheffield University Theatre Company have been using the entire first floor for their "Breathing Corpses" show by promising dramatist Laura Wade, which completely sold out.…

DINA Digest: A look ahead to events this week (04/04)

Uncategorised
Once again it's time to showcase what we have here for this week, but first a thanks to all who came down for a great weekend. We debuted our Social Club night on Friday, an after-work relaxed get-together for creative types with beer, cheese toasties and pork pie. We'll be doing this again this week but with a slight twist on the proceedings, which I'll mention later. On Saturday we had Sheffield techno royalty in B12 in our place on what was a cracking night from start to finish. Moving on to this week and seeing as it is Tuesday then that means... yes, it's Creative Tuesdays night, with an evening of film from Arkade. Tonight's showing is on the theme of 'Cognition & Consciousness', with work from regional and…

So, another weekend goes by and with it a great few days down here at DINA. First up we had the Electronic Music Open Mic Night which went down a storm with a plethora of different acts performing, we had a blast! On to Saturday and Sheffield's ten-piece funk and soul band Bright Lights lit up the place with a great range of party tunes to a packed house, raising £580 for Sheffield's refugee charity ASSIST. Thanks to everyone who came down. On to this week, and we kicked off on Tuesday celebrating a first birthday. Sheffield Singer Songwriters Night began a year ago here and has proven very successful as part of our Creative Tuesdays series. On Wednesday we welcome Open Space to the venue, who have been hosting…
