Welcome to DINA Digest, a round-up of all the events going on here throughout the week into one package. It's a pretty damn busy one this week as we're showcasing brand new poetry, debuting fresh theatre, welcoming back an old favourite and much more... read on and you'll find out! First up we've got to say a big thank you to all who came down to the launch of Rob Hindle's latest collection "The Grail Roads" on Sunday night, in the packed out Jara Room upstairs. We are delighted to herald more new poetry this week on Tuesday November 13 at 7pm, with the debut of doom-pop-poet Suzannah Evans and her dark humoured apocalyptic anthology, 'Near Future.' Described as a journey through sci-fi lullabies and northern mysteries, Suzannah’s work brings…

DARK HUMOURED APOCALYPTIC POETRY BOOK SET FOR LAUNCH AT DINA

DARK HUMOURED APOCALYPTIC POETRY BOOK SET FOR LAUNCH AT DINA

Uncategorised
DOOM POP POETRY with an apocalyptic edge comes to DINA this Tuesday as we herald the book launch of Suzannah Evans’ debut collection ‘Near Future.’ Described as a darkly humorous journey through sci-fi lullabies and northern mysteries, Suzannah’s work brings a distinctive, skilful and wonderfully peculiar roving eye to our restless and unpredictable times. As a teenager, Suzannah had an obsessive fear of the apocalypse which has informed and inspired many of her poems, and she still doesn’t know whether it’s best to plan responsibly for the future or party like it’s 1999. Suzannah is the winner of a Gladstone's Library residency for 2019 with this new collection. Our doors will open from 7pm for this end-of-the-world party to remember, which features readings from the book and poets Helen Mort…

Dina was mentioned in a guardian article about the sites to visit in Sheffield After a morning stroll, stop for lunch at Dina Diner, a vegetarian and vegan cafe attached to a music, comedy, poetry and theatre venue that is a social enterprise and platform for emerging artists. DINA to welcome “visually stunning” play to Sheffield

DINA to welcome “visually stunning” play to Sheffield

Slider, Uncategorised
Bringing ‘lyrical magic’ to Sheffield this May will be the ‘visually stunning’ play, Honey, produced by the Reaction Theatre Makers. The Malvern-based theatre company have been preparing for their national tour, having already established glowing support for their play in the Worcestershire hills. Honey gave audiences a glimpse into a rural Welsh community, where a fraying family have been trying to stitch together a quilt, which eloquently mirrors the patchwork nature of the narrative. The meditative writing absorbed those watching into the internal dialogues of a boy with autism, his mother, her tattoo-artist sister and their estranged half-sibling in their struggle to deal with missing a part of their family, creating a gentle but profound drama. Written and directed by Tiffany Hosking, the play’s use of minimalistic staging completely entranced…

Queer Stories

Queer Stories

As part of our commitment to celebrating LGBTQ history at DINA we are creating a relaxed evening where we invite people to tell stories and anecdotes of their lives in and around Sheffield's LGBTQ scene - against a background of moving political and social change. If you have stories you'd like to share - whether they be happy, sad, funny or bittersweet - please come along and share them with us. We'll also be playing tunes popular in the bars and clubs across the years. We will also be collecting stories for the LGBTQ History Archive to make sure memories are not forgotten. A look forward to Barang! Global Adventures In Bass

Uncategorised
Playing a multitude of genres from South African House to Soca to UK Bass, Barang! is a club night which dubs itself “Global Adventures In Bass.” It is gaining a burgeoning reputation in the North of England for being a unique occasion, not just for the music but also for its atmosphere and that it features a pre-club three course dinner and cocktail evening, which not many club nights can boast of. Joey Winson met with Jack and Komarine from the Barang! collective as they prepare for their one-year birthday at DINA on December 16th, to find out more about how this one-of-a-kind night came to fruition. Sometimes fate has a canny knack of bringing people together with similar ideas and comparable tastes to eventually form a mighty project. Whilst…

UnShut Festival: Interview With The Curator, Charlotte Blackburn

Uncategorised
The first UnShut Festival begins this month at DINA bringing a wide variety of performance art to our venue over three days. This brand new and bold platform for artists sets out to make its mark on Sheffield’s creative calendar by showcasing work in a professional environment outside of mainstream theatres. One of UnShut’s curators, Charlotte Blackburn, decided to create an annual festival after producing a successful run of one-night events, Northern Art, at Theatre Delicatessen in Sheffield City Centre. Charlotte said: “At the time there was nothing like it taking place in the city, and after doing ten of these shows in two years I decided a three day annual festival was the next step, something which would bring people together through a range of performances. “It is about…

DINA Digest 01/05 – 07/05

Uncategorised
It's been slightly quieter at DINA this week, it could well be said we're having a bit of a breather for what lies ahead for the rest of the month, which is packed. We've updated our listings up until June (June's shaping up to be even busier and those listings will be up very soon, just as we've confirmed a few bits and bobs.), so you can have a look at the delights in store, everything from Sheffield Gin Festival, to Daft Chuffs Comedy Night, and UnShut Festival of performing arts. Speaking of performance, we've had an immersive one in our building this week as Sheffield University Theatre Company have been using the entire first floor for their "Breathing Corpses" show by promising dramatist Laura Wade, which completely sold out.…

DINA Digest: A look ahead to events this week (04/04)

Uncategorised
Once again it's time to showcase what we have here for this week, but first a thanks to all who came down for a great weekend. We debuted our Social Club night on Friday, an after-work relaxed get-together for creative types with beer, cheese toasties and pork pie. We'll be doing this again this week but with a slight twist on the proceedings, which I'll mention later. On Saturday we had Sheffield techno royalty in B12 in our place on what was a cracking night from start to finish. Moving on to this week and seeing as it is Tuesday then that means... yes, it's Creative Tuesdays night, with an evening of film from Arkade. Tonight's showing is on the theme of 'Cognition & Consciousness', with work from regional and…
